About Me

I am Roger Knight. My background is in the sciences. After University I worked as a research chemist for 3 years then went off to Spain to teach English for a year which was great. I started my love affair with Spain at this time ! When I came back I didn't have a job so decided to retrain as a computer programmer. Did that and worked at a few places before settling at the Leeds Permanent which then merged with the Halifax. I worked on PC based systems and did some stuff around Object Oriented Programming and Design when it was all very new and then worked on even bigger mainframe database systems. Then I was offered a position at the Halifax's subsidiary in Madrid. So I worked there for 18 months and got pretty fluent in Spanish. I came back to Leeds again and worked on even bigger mainframe database systems now as a project manager.

At the back end of the 90's I started getting interested in homeopathy as a viable alternative to conventional medicine. I got so interested in fact that I completed a 4 year part time course which qualified me as a practising homeopath. I had a period of time where I worked at the Halifax part time and was a homeopath part time. At this point I really started to get into web site design and build as a way of promoting my work as a homeopath. I built sites for other people and it grew from there. I found I enjoyed doing that as much as being a homeopath. So I left the Halifax and now split my time between being a web site designer and seeing clients for homeopathy. As I was doing quite a lot of web development work, I decided to set up this web site design company, AttractMore. It's and interesting a varied life !

About AttractMore

Believe it or not, I spent ages thinking up this name for the business. I won't embarrass myself by telling you about the range of weird and wonderful ideas I had for other names. Some of them I actually liked but the web site name wasn't available. Then I came up with AttractMore. To be honest, I wasn't sure about it at first but the name grew on me AND the web site name was available. So now I do like the name.

To me it embodies this idea of attracting more people to your site and so giving them the chance to benefit from the products or services you have to offer. So, I anticipate, you will attract more clients and more money.

The other element that I like is that it is about attraction, so your web site needs to be attractive. It is important to me that the sites I produce are attractive.

And finally, it's about attracting more people - as many people as possible. That must include making web sites as accessible as possible to as many people as possible irrespective of the fact that they may have some form of disability which makes using a normal browser awkward or impossible. Apart from the obvious moral imperative, it makes perfect business sense to me that we should not limit our audience.

About this web site

This web site was built using Dreamweaver 8 on Windows XP Professional. I got ideas for the design from a number of places and have used Roger Johansson's article about rounded borders on boxes to produce this site. I also nicked some stuff from Andy Budd's excellent book - CSS Mastery.

The way I use Dreamweaver is to produce a template or series of templates for the pages. This makes it very easy to produce new pages and ensures consistency between pages. The site is written using valid XHTML strict with the layout and styling being handled by CSS.

This site is hosted by Me2uweb. I have used them for all (almost all ?) the sites I have produced. Them seem reliable, reasonably priced and they respond quickly and efficiently if I ever have any technical queries.
